Shower Filters

There’s been a recent surge in the popularity of shower filters. This is because current research shows that there may be hidden dangers when it comes to the tap water that’s used in today’s showers. VOC’s, Chlorine and traces of other harmful chemical products may be found in your tap water, and these pose potential dangers for your skin and your overall health. Some choose a shower filter to remove the Chlorine smell from the shower but there are several other benefits:

Shower filters lead to softer skin and silkier hair. Most tap water contains either Chlorine or Fluorine and both of these have an acidic effect in solution on the skin. This can lead to dryness and even skin irritation in some cases. It does this because the Chlorine (or Fluorine) absorbs moisture directly from the surface of your body. This can also lead to dry and brittle hair through very much the same process. A shower filter works by reducing the levels of Chlorine in the water, before it comes into contact with your body. Long-term usage has been shown to have noticeable effects on the quality and health of your skin and hair.

If you suffer from a respiratory condition such as Asthma, it’s probably time that you considered buying a shower filter for your home. When you take a shower, many chemicals from the water are vaporized in the form of steam - which you breathe in. It’s not just water that ends up in the vapor, you also find chloroform (from the Chlorine present in the tap water) and that’s not good for your body. In fact in the confined space of a shower, these chemicals can build up to relatively high airborne concentrations very quickly. If you filter the water before it comes out of the shower head, you can head this problem off at the pass.

Shower filters can offer more benefits that drinking water filters. Why? Because of the volumes of water involved when taking a shower, unfiltered water exposes you to more chemicals than drinking 8 glasses of tap water! You absorb some of these chemicals through your skin and others through your lungs as you inhale the steam of your shower. Not a pleasant thought is it?

One of the big advantages of a shower filter is the cost-effectiveness, unlike drinking water filters that can work out quite expensive over time. Just one shower filter can last an entire family for over 6 months, and when you break down the price – you’ll find it works out to be just pennies a day to protect you and your family.

Shower filters can make a significant contribution to your health and to your physical appearance. They make for an excellent way to reduce your overall exposure to harmful chemicals on a daily basis. Women tend to shower for long than men (on average) and will receive the most benefit from a shower filter.
